Genuine quotes from guests who stayed at Shelter Jordan in February 2016

  • My 2 friends and me were looking for a secure hostel for 4 nights in Amsterdam and the Shelter Jordan is a really good compromise betwen security and a good atmosphere. The bedrooms and the common bathroom are clean, the staff is nice and answer every question you have about the hostel or Amsterdam in global ! The breakfasts are free and really nice to start a day walking all around this beautiful city. I will come back in Amsterdam and in the Shelter hostel for sure !
  • Excellent local, very friendly staff, rooms ok, bad wifi, breakfast not too much options but for me was ok.
  • A great place to stay..... I just loved this Hostel, and Jordaan. I hired a bicycle from them and had a fun time exploring the back streets and Noordermarkt.
  • Staff is very nice and helpful. Bed is comfy but if you stay at the bed near window you will definitely need to switch on the heater. only 4 baths and 3 toilets on girl floor (don't know for guys floor) seems insufficient.
  • We had to wait for our room since it was being cleaned
  • It was a very nice stay, the location of the hostel is quite calm, the staff is adorable, thank to them !
  • I really liked the hostel and the breakfast but it would be cool to be able to use the kitchen for lunch or dinner to cook on your own!!
  • Amazing, friendly staff! I felt like staying with some relatives rather than a hostel. Excellent location, clean and warm dorms. 10 out of 10!
  • Hostel is quite good. It is clean, people are very friendly and opened. Location is great. Hostel is in the center of the city, you can reach every touristic places by foot.
  • Had a comfortable and friendly stay at the Shelter. The staff were super friendly and helpful, the free breakfast (pancakes) was delicious. It was a shame that it started at 8am as it prevents early risers from starting the day with such a lovely breakfast. But friendliness (I was invited to spend time with them in prayer and Bible reading, which I thought was fantastic) made up for such a small issue.Location was fine, attractions all in walking distance, transport to Centraal around the corner
  • The best thing about this hostel is its location. Jordaan is a beautiful neighborhood, and I loved living there. The Anne Frank House is a 5-minute walk from the doors of the hostel! The security is good, you have to show them a slip with your room info upon entering the building and all of the dorm rooms have keys. Staff was nice. The atmosphere was a little lacking, but then I went mid-Feb. Bathroom on my floor only had 3 toilets and 4 showers.
  • Fantastic hostel for young adults! Staff are SUPER friendly and helpful! The only complaint I have is I wish there were more outlets in the rooms but there is a charging station downstairs which was fine. Another thing is I wish the wifi worked better!!!!!! (first world problems) Everything else was wonderful. Can’t beat a free breakfast either!
  • It's a good hostel, they have breakfast but they don't have a kitchen. The room was cleaned but it's was too small. The location is good, you are just 20 min walking far away from the city center.
  • When I arrived, I initially was greeted and checking in was really quick and easy. The days I stayed the temperatures reached -2C , what really helped was the heating in the building - and most importantly the responsive hot water in the shower.. Many times I have stayed at places where hot water was a myth! So I was really happy to be warmed in an instant at this hostel. The breakfast between 8-10am had three options with one being a hot option which was cooked there on request, great!
  • The staff were extremely friendly! Really made us feel welcome. The security for the luggage was fantastic and very well maintained! We stayed in a shared dorm but the room was pretty quiet, very warm and the bed was very comfortable and the duvet was quite warm and thick and cozy. The hostel overall was super clean and came with a very delicious free breakfast. We felt moderately full after the breakfast however for the price per night (breakfast included) it was amazing value for our money!
  • A good hostel to stay in, unfortunately no kitchen available so you need to spend more money on food. But the café has offers all day long and the breakfast included is good. Staff super friendly!!
  • Stayed in the 18 bed female mixed dorm. Comfy beds, with clean sheets. Showers/bathroom were okay, not the cleanest but hot showers were a major plus. Breakfast was okay nothing special. Staff was friendly, however it is a lot of younger kids working there so sometimes they didn't know the answers to our questions about Amsterdam and the area. Wifi didn't work that well in the room.
  • very friendly staff and great breakfast and location:-) over all great value for money
  • I was very amused and surprised of this hostel. The staff is very dedicated and very open. This is a Christian minded Hostel and you should then also (to my belief) take part in the meditation or discussion in the evening as of 19.30. The facilities are very clean. They do hoovering every day. But overall a big plus to this hostel.
  • Rooms nice, clean and warm. Good choice of breakfast - hot (had pancakes and then eggs), juice, toast and cereal etc. Showers nice clean and had shampoo for communal use. Location good easily get to things mainly Anne Frank house five mins away. Security good. Could have a range of other books - rather than Christian related books and wifi could be a bit faster. Plus a towel should be included in the price. Great stay and would stay again. Solo traveller.
  • Friday night dutch food testing is great, staff are awesome.
  • I loved my stay at Shelter Jordan, the staff were really friendly and helpful and I liked the fact they add little events for the hostel guests and the staff to do together.
  • Wifi did not work in the rooms, but beds were comfy
  • Very sheltered place, great meeting place with people from all over the world. You can even sit in the big living room never getting bored. Location is really quiet, outside the business of the town centre, although it's just minutes away with the tram. The lockers in the dorms are big enough for a back pack, everything is clean, the air is good, just a place where you feel you're in the shelter of the Almighty,
  • The hostel is placed close to the city centre, u only have to walk a few minutes. We had a nice and comfortable stay and the staff was very friendly! Next time we will stay in the same hostel again!
  • Friendly staff, excellent location, good price. The bathrooms are not very clean, but for the price you pay for it I would say that it is acceptable. I stayed 3 times in this hostel in different occasions, and I would definitively sleep there again.
  • I found the hostel to be clean and tidy. They didn't charge for extra's like sheets or breakfast. There is plenty of information and discounts made available and the staff were really good for transport knowledge and recommendations for food and activities. Walkable to the city centre.
  • They provide amazing accommodations, a cute cafe with free breakfast, and amazing programming.  The staff are so friendly and try to get to know you while also themselves having amazing stories to tell.  Definitely stay here.

Genuine quotes from guests who stayed at Shelter Jordan in January 2016

  • Very nice atmosphere, the is too friendly and helpful. Personally it was excellent. Thanx shelters
  • Friendly staff, good breakfast and a fantastic location...
  • Living at Shelter Jordan was perfect. The staff was very nice, the hostel was very clean and its location was perfect as well. The tram station was close and the region was a quiet one. My stay was perfect. ☺
  • Great homemade breakfast and very kind staff.
  • Rooms too small
  • The staff was awesome and very friendly!
  • A very good hostel. Location and cleaniss are great.
  • The hostel itself is nice! however the bathrooms need a good clean and there isn't enough room in the dorms. This means you are constantly stepping onto someone. The free breakfast is a plus! Also the hostel does not have a kitchen only a microwave and fringe.
  • It's a hostel near the centre, there are only 15-20 minutes walking to the central station, but I like it because we decided to see Ana Frank house, the Damm place, and some important places near it. Good location, confortable, with 2 options in the breakfast and there are cheap possibilities for lunch or dinner, too. I liked the people working inside it and I met new guys . It's a good option to sleep some nights and visit Amsterdam.
  • I loved my stay here! Not only did I feel a sense of connection with the members of staff: they went out of their way to help me and other guests. The food was good and the intention to meet guests needs beyond reproach. I felt really safe and I'll be back!
  • It's a great budget hostel. People are nice and friendly in check-in and answering any tourism information. I have a great night staying in Shelter. It is much appreciate if kitchen is provided to make our own meal.
  • Really good hostel. Has all you need, very safe and perfect location. Surprisingly cheap, perfect for people on a budget.
  • Shelter Jordan was very welcoming, helpful and friendly. It was so lovely to meet so many interesting people from so many different places, and be so well looked after. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
  • Very good. Near tram stop.
  • Have you ever heard about love? Well, that's what you get in Shelter. The place is very cool, the people are nice, the food are fantastic and you are in the most awesome part of the city. It's calm, but closer to everything. I will for sure go back there!
  • good place to stay, very clean, nice staff
  • A great hostel, very nice and helpful staff. Perhaps you might look into doors that lock automatically, as I was a bit wary trusting my roommates to lock the door after they left.
  • Great hostel with a warm family atmosphere and friendly staff .
  • Great staff.
  • Thank you for these three nights. A beautiful hostel. Fairly close to downtown but in a quiet area. The free meal Friday night was the opportunity to meet other tenants. see you later.
  • The hostel was really good. The staff were very friendly to us and the location was perfect
  • Very nice hostel in the best area of Amsterdam, Jordaan! Very friendly and welcoming staff, young volunteers that really creates a positive and...just very nice atmosphere :) The hostel is non-alcohol, non drugs and non smoking, and in a city like Amsterdam, this is a very good thing. No problem sleeping though you stay in a 18-bed dorm(!). The rooms are divided with walls and high ceiling, which makes it very airy. Comfy beds also. Big "livingroom" where you meet other travelers and hang out
  • The location is ok but not good. But the staff are really nice! There was free dinner! The room is quite narrow but the atmosphere was good!
It is not really clear in the description, this is a religious hostel, a christian one. So if you go to amsterdam with a more meeting people and partying, this is maybe not the place for you. For example you cannot buy a beer, or drink one in the hostel. Still you can meet nice people and have a good time. The price is really cheap and close to the center. The facilities are fine for the price.
  • Excellent location and lovely staff. Clean rooms and good breakfast! Would definitely stay again. Only downside is the one power outlet for four beds.
  • Really good for someone who finding a cheapest hostel and safe place! Good wifi, good price, good breakfast and the staffs are very nice.
  • We went at a bad timing where we are unable to join all the activities. It sounds fun. A good hostel still. It is really close to a tram stop, but a bit far from bus stations, and tram system in Amsterdam are a bit confusing. I like it's concept of a Christian Hostel
  • Wifi is not so stable during the room. The room is not so light. But the atmosphere is great and staffs are very nice! By the way, I love the breakfast very much.
  • It is exactly as it says: a christian hostel. That means if you are willing to party hard, this is definetely not for you. Everything else is awesome!
  • Good hostel, nice to have a quiet place to sleep at night & a clean hostel, nothing like a previous cheaper placed I stayed in Amsterdam. Despite not being Christian I had a good time, but the atmosphere is particularly tame. Very safe and good option, would stay again
  • Nice and quiet athmosphere in the hostel. Very reasonable price for Amsterdam.
  • Staff was friendly and I felt safe. But one guy in my room had his light on untill 4 AM so I had trouble falling asleep.
  • I have not been in a hostel for around 20 years and I was very positively surprised! Good location, very friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable rooms and all you need to stay for a good price to see the city!
  • Good place, all attractions are nearby. Staff is good and food is OK. They have clean rooms and bed. Reception was really helpful and hostel is secured. Tram station is next to hostel. The place is comparatively cheaper than other hostels. Value for money
  • Shelter Jordan is a very welcoming and clean hostel. The staff are always smiling and happy to help but as it is a Christian hostel don't ask about the red light district and being under the influence of drugs or alcohol is forbidden at the hostel which might not be good for some people visiting Amsterdam but also makes it a lovely place to stay as a solo traveller!
The free breakfast was very nice and filling with 3 options every morning and the location was a little out of the main square but only a short walk. The rooms were very small. Overall a great place to stay, to have a relaxed time in Amsterdam!
  • Nice hostel. Clean area on either bedrooms zone and café. The café is a nice place to stay on lazy time. The breakfast is for free and It is good as several hostels around Europe do not offer it as included on booking fee. Anne Frank's house is very close.

Genuine quotes from guests who stayed at Shelter Jordan in December 2015

  • I had a wonderful stay, the location and facilities were great but what really sets this hostel apart is the staff and the atmosphere. I really recommend signing up for dinner, the food and homey feeling is just perfect during a long travel.
  • Lovely hostel with an extremely comfortable atmosphere. Location really accessible and easy to find. I will definitely be going back!
  • The cafe and stuff all had a nice vibe, but everywhere you looked there were bible references. If you're a christian you will feel extremely at home here, if you're not however, the atmospere might feel a little but unwelcoming
  • The hostel was in a decent location. Facilities were adequate and it was easy to talk to others. I really enjoyed the included breakfast, which consisted of a warm meal option: had cheese and ham sandwich and pancakes the next day. Overall I had a pleasant stay.
  • Really very sweet and wonderful place to stay. Its perfect because it just far enough to be a little secluded but yet close enough to walk to the center. It seems like a bit of a walk at first but its actually not even that mad and you see the city well. I stayed in the suite with multiple people, definitely recommend because I ended up making friends and taking off with them to explore other areas of Holland. Really the best experience.
  • Totally recommend it!
  • The hostel was really was above my expectation ..we stayed in 4 girl dorm ..the room was very small but we managed..the bathrooms are really clean and the sheets as well..the towel costs 1 euro shampoos available .. The heating work well .. The cafe is small but fine water for 20 cents ..staff are really nice friendly and helpful to a great way .. I recommend it for students but 30s may not like the atmosphere as most of the guests are students ..
  • BEST STAFF EVER! Honestly, the best place to stay! The staff is so cute and nice, it was a good experience. Always polite and try to help you.
  • Great Hostel. Friendly and helpful staff makes you feel comfortable. Nice breakfast and cheap dinner. The only point that should be improved is the WIFI signal, specially in the second floor.
  • I'll start off by saying that this is a very clean and neat hostel. The staff are very nice and friendly. This is a christian hostel, so if you're expecting to be at a hostel where you can meet folks and party with them later, don't stay here. Great and secure location. The shower head kind of sucks, and you almost have to hug the wall in order to have the water fall on your body. Overall, nice hostel.
  • Shelter Jordan has good staff and they smil everytime while I was in there so they are kind :) Safety was good already drugs and alcohol is not prohibited.
  • I would highly recommend this hostel. Me and my friend had a great stay here!
  • The lighting in the main room is quite dim and the walkway in the room is a bit narrow so it's difficult to move pass if everyone is in the room. But other than that , everything is excellent, staffs are very friendly and the breakfast is a bonus
  • Very good facilities combined with a welcoming atmosphere created by an excellent staff! Our stay at Shelter Jordaan Amsterdam was fantastic. Traveling with a group of five teenage boys, this hostel was perfect. The rooms had everything we needed and were very clean. The café and the free breakfast were terrific. But the thing that really made our stay stand out was the staff. They were very friendly and were sincerely interested in making sure all our needs were met.
  • Our weekend in shelter Jordan was okay. But due to the good reviews, I have expected a lot more. especially for 30€ a night! The hostel is very easy and nothing special!
  • The hostel is clean and staff is kind but in the room 16 beds have just on plug for 4 beds. The location is a bit far from the center for walking but you can enjoy with the view of city or the river
  • I felt very welcome. Staying for the evening in the common room was very pleasant.
  • A for a weekend away but not more than that. Staff is great and breakfast is included and very good acceptable
  • Clean and secure hostel, friendly staff, quiet atmosphere, in beautiful neighbourhood. Great place for travelers who want to avoid the party crowd that usually invades hostels. This hostel actually practices spiritual values. Note that unlike most hostels there is no access to the kitchen for guests (but staff prepares food for sale). Fridge is definitely too small for everybody's food items.
  • the staff is really friendly at the receptionist, in the caffe bar, really nice . I enjoyed my stay in AMsterdam
  • everyone in the hostel in very sympathetic and kind
  • Some of the friendliest people I've ever met! Everyone was really helpful, and always had a smile on their face!
  • This hostel had a very relaxed atmosphere which made it easy to meet people, especially with free events such as the Dutch food tasting session. The free breakfast was also very good and it was always a good start to my day.
  • everyone was nice. The "hot" breakfast changes everyday and although you cannot serve yourself, they give a good amount of food! The beds and pillows are nice; the rooms with 8beds have a small space between bunk beds and I wasn't excepting but the 18 bed rooms have a lot of space although depending on where you stay your locker may stay not adjacent to the bed (we've stayed in both of them).Everything very clean and quiet!
  • As most of the staffs were volunteers in the hostel , it was so easy to talk and ask about everything. The only thing was I would suggest any new visitor not to book 18 bed dorm and go for fewer beds dorm. Besides that the hostel was fantastic.... :)
  • The staff at Shelter Jordan were very welcoming and helpful. I found the rooms very clean and comfortable for a one night stay and would book there again.
  • Super cool. Really a shelter, perfectly hidden from the busy rushes elsewhere in urban areas or at home (...). And with the tram around the corner it is possible to leave the shelter if you decide to do so. Perfect place to meet people and encourage each other in the family living room cq cafe.
  • The breakfast is not bad, you have some varieties, but the portion is a little bit small. The hostel itself is really nice, quiet and peaceful, staffs are friendly, good security, they will check the card before you can go up to your room. Bed and bathroom is clean.

Genuine quotes from guests who stayed at Shelter Jordan in November 2015

  • Completely exceeded expectations! Amazing stay for a very good price. Would definitely recommend.
Shelter for me is good for stay
  • Excelent place to stay in Amsterdam... Close to everything you need, clean and quiet. The staff will always help and answer any question with a smile. It was a smart choice!!! Higly recommended!
  • We had a great time! The staff was very welcoming, nice and ready to help us. It was a good service they offered us! I will come next time again.
  • Trank you very much for our lovely stay in Amsterdam.
  • BEST FREE BREAKFAST IVE HAD IN 3 MONTHS OF TRAVELLING EUROPE. Eggs, cheese and ham on toast, pancakes, and coffee or hot chocolate every morning. STAFF WERE ALL FANTASTIC. I recommend doing the home cooked meal. It's only 6 euro and you can go back for seconds! Do not hesitate to book this hostel, you will not regret it! Great place to meet others for solo travelers.
  • This is a Christian hostel and it was quite enjoyable and friendly. There is a nightly 7:30 pm Bible study for those who are interested. The cafe is open until 10 pm every evening and has very reasonably priced meals. The hot breakfast is served at 8 am and was excellent. The most enjoyable hostel I have stayed at and I highly recommend it.
  • This hostel was amazing! Such a warm environment and very clean. I would definitely come back and also recommend to others!
  • Hostel was amazing! Will definitely be recommending to friends. Staff were really lovely and hospitable. Couldn't have hoped for anywhere better to stay. Thank you for making my trip so special.
  • Great Hostel ! Staff members were incredibely friendly. A bit expensive for an hostel but I do recommend.
  • The staff is very welcoming and loving. I had a pleasant stay at the Hostel. The sleeping arrangement was good and great food for breakfast/ dinner. One thing to stress is that you'll need to bring your own lock of a certain diameter (5mm) in order to lock stuff in the lockers. Other than that, I really had a pleasant time with my stay at Shelter Jordan. I would recommend this hostel to anyone visiting Amsterdam.
  • Had a great time in Amsterdam thanks to the friendly staff at Shelter Jordan. Overall, the hostel facilities were clean and well maintained, the atmosphere was very welcoming, and the location was beyond perfect! Located a walking distance from most tourist attractions, it was easy to get around and find my way back. Plus I never felt unsafe while walking back during the night hours. Would definitely recommend staying here!
  • The staff were very nice and friendly at this hostel. I really appreciated the quiet atmosphere at night and also thought the location was great as it was close but not too close to the busier streets of Amsterdam.
  • The experience there was really good. They offer all support that it necessary for who is looking for a good atmosphere, new friends and opportunity to know Amsterdam. I recommend this hostel because I always looking for a place to rest and calm.
  • Staff are helpful and friendly. The area is a residential with an authentic peaceful atmosphere that gives a good reflection of Dutch city life, as well as being right by the beautifully picturesque canals. The facilities are good with clean sheets, hot water and a basic breakfast. As a 40 + female travelling on my own I would highly recommend this hostel.
  • Lacks a bit more charisma compared to most hostels in Dam.
  • Really good drug free hostel. Friendly and helpful staff and decent location.
  • I just loved.
  • Great stay ! Not expensive and the qualities and kindness is very present.
  • It's very nice hostel, the staffs are really really great, kind and welcome. On Friday evening, you can also join the game of improvising performance with them. I would like to recommend to stay!
  • This is a great hostel in general but i had trouble sleeping here.
  • I am not religious, but really enjoyed staying here. The staff were the most helpful hostel workers I have met and the others staying there were great, as well. The rooms were well organized and the bathrooms very clean. There is free breakfast which was helpful. I recommend this hostel for anyone whether religious or not.
  • Hands down the best hostel I have ever stayed in! It was so clean, the staff were so friendly, the rooms were comfortable and sufficient. The showers were great! I felt perfectly safe and because the staff were so friendly. The "take-away" breakfast option was great, as I had to leave before 8 am. This is not a party hostel, which I greatly appreciated, as not all travelers want to stay up and drink all night. If there was one downside it would maybe be location--not as close as other hostels.
  • I appreciate staff of Shelter Jordan, your work is amazing. I like the soft tone of the bed lights, it is so good to have washbasins inside the room. The beds are easy to climb=) The sheets were clean, so the bathroom and even the toilets in the entrance. The breakfast may not be enough for a male adult but it is nice, besides there is three choices for breakfast and one of them is a baked option(pancakes or omlette). Location is both quiet and close to transportation. The guests are quiet.
  • I was a solo female traveller for 2 nights. My plans changed and I ended up staying an extra 2 nights. The price is unbeatable for the location. A few blocks away from the Ann Frank house. And if you walk everywhere like me, only a 20 minute walk from the main station. The bathroom was not the cleanest, but there were hot showers. The free breakfast includes a hot option of the day (pancakes, french toast, or ham and eggs) and a hot drink. Outstanding when compared to most free breakfast options
  • We loved the cafe room a lot and the free breakfast was great. Liked the 24-hour, friendly staff too.
  • Only about a 20 minute walk from Dam Square or other attractions, this hostel was great. The staff was awesome and even cooked a hot breakfast every morning which was delicious. The 18 bed female dorm had dividers which created a sense of privacy despite the large number of people in the room. Blankets, pillows and lockers are provided and you can check your luggage at the front desk even after you checked out. However, there was only one electrical socket for 4 people which was a hassle.
  • staff were very friendly and could help me out when I had a problem. the free breakfast makes this great value for money!
  • This is my second stay in Shelter Jordan and again I am very happy about it. I f I visit Amsterdam again, I will stay at Shelter Jordan;)
  • I travel a lot, but I have never stayed at a better hostel than the Shelter Jordan. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the facilities were marvelous. We stayed three nights for a cheap 50 US dollars.
  • The hostel is good but the staff is the best part of it! I would definitely come back and recommend this hostel to anyone! ;)
  • It was a very good hostel, very clean and near the dam square. The staff was really nice and with a lot of disposition to help.
  • One of the best hostels i've ever been to. Felt really safe with the 24 hour reception where guests need to produce their receipt when entering. 15min walk to Dam square via well-lit roads. Free breakfast is amazing, especially their hot options. I also love the other food available for sale at the hostel. You can get a filling meal for just 5 Euros, way cheaper than anywhere outside. The Bami and Nasi meals also reminded me of the way noodles and rice are fried at home.
  • In terms of atmosphere, Shelter Jordan is one of the best I've been in :) The staff are so friendly and helpful, and their presence makes the hostel so warm, cozy and friendly. It was such a nice place to come back to at the end of a long day :) It will help if there are more lights in the dorms though!
  • Wi-fi signal is weak in the dorms.
  • I loved my stay there! The staff/volunteers are so friendly and open you feel right at home. Great vibe and breakfast was also delicious. Will definitely recommend Shelter Jordan. Thank you everyone!
  • it was a very warm hostel with helpful staff ...clean and near the center ...

Genuine quotes from guests who stayed at Shelter Jordan in October 2015

  • Shelter Jordan was the perfect place for me to explore Amsterdam as a solo traveler! The staff was incredibly kind and friendly, and the common room made it really easy to meet new people. Breakfasts are free and dinners are affordable. The shelter is 10-20 minutes from many major sites and it is in a lovely neighborhood that is well worth exploring. The front desk has great advice on things to do, and best prices on bike rentals, canal tours, etc. Everything I could have hoped for!
  • Excelent place to stay in Amsterdam... Close to everything you need, clean and quiet. The staff will always help and answer any question with a smile. It was a smart choice!!! Higly recommended!
  • We stayed for 4 nights at the Jordan hostel. The staff are very friendly, thoughtful and helpful and make a good atmosphere. The building is clean and tidy. The food in the cafe was superb and we chatted a lot there and made new friends making for pleasant and relaxing sociable evenings. Bike hire was the cheapest around with good bikes and the location is perfect for sightseeing. I look forward to next time.
  • This place had the most amazing hot breakfast FOR FREE! Nothing like getting pancakes or French toast in the morning to start your day right. However, the fact that there was no drugs or alcohol allowed in the hostel did give it a very different vibe than a normal hostel. Nothing bad, just not very...rowdy. The kind of place where you go for a break from all the partying rather than staying out until 3am.
  • Hostel is located around 15-20 mins walk from the city centre. 5 mins walk to Anne Frank house and 1 min walk to tram/bus station. An average hostel for all the non-smoking non-drinking travelers. Since it is a Christian Hostel, quite a few restrictions are there as per the Amsterdam standards. They had a few activities of local food tasting and Jordaan area walking tour, which i found interesting. It was good to meet some of the volunteers working in the hostel and share their stories.
  • The hospitality offered by the staff at the hostel was (is) amazing!!! I felt so much at home and at ease immediately. The location is easy to find, and really quite central for its price. (i mean walking to the center takes approximately 15 minutes, but the hostel is really really price-worthy! And Amsterdam is naturally expensive) The breakfast offered there is amazing as well--it's hot, it's special, and above all, it's free. I recommend this hostel to anyone who wants to visit Amsterdam!
  • Realy nice staff, very friendly. Also perfect location. I had a 'take away' breakfast since I had to leave early, this was very nice.
  • good hostel
  • Interesting place to live in, I would found the staff very helpful, friendly and caring. Shelter Jordan is close location to canal rides, dam square, nine streets and vondel park. I would recommend people who are going for 1 week trip in Amsterdam should definitely visit shelter Jordan.
  • The hostel is nice, very tidy and there's a good common room.
  • Decent enough hostel for what you pay. We spend three nights in the 18 bed girls dorm. Beds are comfortable, the place is clean. You get a free breakfast. There is no common room as such, just a cafe. There is no room keys so lock everything up if you do stay. It's quiet enough mostly. Would recommend if on a short stay and you aren't a party animal.
  • Besides the mistake of choosing an 18 bed dorm, facilities are great: the pillow supplied is huge and much better than any other hostel pillow I've laid my head on, and showers/washrooms are great also. The free breakfast is quite small/inadequate. Location is good, about a 20 min walk from Centraal Station and Amsterdam is very accessible regardless. Staff was helpful, I'd definitely stay again (in a smaller dorm!!) and would recommend.
  • Close to a tram station. Everything is good !
  • This hostel is quite something special. The staff are particularly amazing and care for their guests above and beyond their call. They care. They love. They are awesome.
  • I really enjoyed my stay in Shelter Jordan. Free breakfast rules! :)
  • I had a very nice stay at Jordan since it was the last leg of my trip , it was perfect place to relax and just to take it easy. Good free breakfast and nice dinner.
  • Very nice hostel in safe area (Jordan) about 5min walk from Anne Frank huis, 10 min from Dom & 20 min from train station. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast incl. and made fresh daily. Great start to the day. Kitchen facilities are limited (fridge and microwave) Really comfortable and secure feeling to it. Would recommend.
  • the place is perfect. Breakfast is not just bread n butter but also ham, omelet and others depend on the days, meal during the day is cheap and delicious. Dinner for 6 euro only, will stay here again if i come back to amsterdam.
  • Wonderful hostel! The staffs were nice and it's clearer they are well-organised. I was surprised to have hot freshly-made breakfast in the morning which was included in the room price! I even had pancakes and it was great. The facilities weren't too bad although the shower can definitely be more powerful and hotter. Apart from that, I love this hostel (if you are not a party type person this is a perfect place)!
  • It is very safe and easy to get tourist spots. The staffs are very kind and generate harmonic and happy atmosphere. Food is good and cost effective.
  • Most people use this place since it's the cheapest option. made some good friends here, though, most people aren't Christian. Friendly staff.
  • Great location, great breakfast. Checkin was very very friendly ( a man from Uruguay). Breakfast ist great.
  • I put everything excellent, but I could put "Super Excellent" for staff, were it possible. Thank you very much for all staff, volunteers, and everyone else involved.
  • Good location and friendly staff, however the room a little bit small.
  • Very nice place to stay, staff was very helpful and hostel was extremely QUIET! Don't even know how it's possible, this was first quiet hostel I've stayed and most of the people were sleeping already when me and my friend arrived later evening. Breakfast was good
  • Great staff, if your looking for a youth hostel with less chance of being woken my a bunch of late teens/early twenties out of their face, this is the hostel for you.
  • Loved my stay here as a solo traveler. The location was great as I wanted to be close to the Anne Frank house but it really was walkable to pretty much everywhere as Amsterdam isn't too huge. However, if you want to be close to the city center/water just go for their other hostel across town. The staff is super nice and helpful, breakfast had options which was a first for me (usually there's no options!) and even the dinner was delicious! If you want to drink/smoke, just do it before!
  • My stay in Shelter Jordan was fantastic. I felt very safe, even though I was sleeping in the 18 beds room. Breakfast was great! The staff was a highlight. They were allways open and ready to help you with a smile or even to actualy get to know you. I Idefinitly reccomend it also considering the price which is so great!
  • The staff was really nice and they worked hard on the atmosphere.
  • Great place to stay, people is really kind, breakfast is delicious!

Genuine quotes from guests who stayed at Shelter Jordan in September 2015

  • Really good hostel, excellent location, very clean, incredibly friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again.

  • Great staff and good food :) awesome location for just walking around the city..

  • Great hostel! Awesome people! Healthy environment! Would go back to Amsterdam if I am in that neck of the woods again just to stay there.

  • Good place to sleep. Just one thing, the rooms are for like 18 persons so if you dont like crowds maybe you wont like it. However, its important to say that nothing happens when i was there, everything went well.

  • Fantastic hostel to stay at. Good location in a beautiful part of town, great staff, friendly and helpful. Clean, well kept, and offer great break fasts!

  • The only problemas with the shelter was that the lockers near the beds were very small, for a average backpack. They fix it with the room near the reception. The rest was nice.

  • I stayed at Shelter Jordan while in Amsterdam for a few days. Overall, I enjoyed my stay there! It is a good, clean hostel with a great atmosphere. And I feel that mainly comes from the staff. They're phenomenal. Very welcoming, very gracious and very willing to help with whatever they can. The staff here was one of the big perks. It's in a safe area and I always felt very secure. Loved the hot showers, free breakfast, kitchen amenities, light and power outlet at each bed.
  • The room setup was but difficult because the room we were in was 8 beds in a very narrow space, but it was clean and well cared for. Overall it was a nice stay. I loved that breakfast was provided and we were able to enjoy the wifi everywhere in the hostel.
  • We had a great tme everyone was really nice and as 2 older ladies we really appreciate and will always remember our stay at shelter jordan
  • If you want a calm place to enjoy your stay in Amsterdam this is the right place.
  • A great experience. The staff is really nice.
  • Did not realise it was a no-drug, Christian hostel, in fact it was quite a shock when I arrived. It was clean and friendly and I was able to smoke in the day and just not bring any weed back to the hostel. I wouldn't recommemd this hostel for smokers or drinkers but it is pleasant enough and easy to navigate to. There is also a tiny gallery on the same road that is free and worth a quick visit, it's called Fons Weters Galerie.
  • Breakfast was nice and lounge too. And garden area.
  • nice place to sleep :)
  • The people who is working in the hostal are very kind. The place is very very clean and you are in the city center in 10 minits. I would repeat!
  • Girls at reception were really nice and helpful.. Rooms with many people, so there was noise all the time.. Normal for big rooms.. Nice breakfast included..
  • Really nice hostel, great atmosphere, good location and delicius breakfest, I think everything travelers want.
  • Really enjoyed my stay at Shelter Jordan. The friendly staff and atmosphere made the stay really enjoyable and I would definitely recommend the hostel to others. Excellent to see the hostel using this as a means of outreach and to spread the Good News of the Gospel.
  • Excellent hostel with very good location. The staff was awesome! Thank you!
  • Good hostel, cheap for Amsterdam! The staff is awesome, very friendly and helpful. Very secure, there is always someone at the reception controlling who has access to the hostel and to the luggage room. The location is really good, in the middle of the lovely Jordan district, 10 minute walking to the Dam Square and 20 minute walking to the Centraal Station. The hostel has a nice common area, with a lot of games to play and books to read. The rooms are ok, clean, but nothing special about them.
  • A very nice hostel with friendly and smiley staffs. Each bed is equipped with a bed light and power outlet which is great. Toilets were clean. I enjoyed my stay there very much. Thank you.
  • Breakfast was amazing, we even got a takeaway breakfast as we had to leave early on our last day. Staff were extremely helpful. Would stay again.
  • Overall loved the shelter, lovely staff, all of which volunteer, the breakfast was amazing as was the location, toilets where mostly clean but hair built up in one of the showers so that wasn't great and the lockers weren't huge. All in wall would recommend/10
  • Location is convenient, quite place. Staff are frindly with smile
  • The staff are very nice and helpful, but there is no lift, which is quite inconvenient for those who carry large luggage.
  • Excelent place to stay in Amsterdam... Close to everything you need, clean and quiet. The staff will always help and answer any question with a smile. It was a smart choice!!! Higly recommended!

Genuine quotes from guests who stayed at Shelter Jordan in August 2015

  • A very nice hostel located in the Jordaan district of Amsterdam. About 15-20 minutes walk from central station and only 2-3 minutes walk away from Anne Franks house (which is other side of the canal). The hostel is split into a boys and girls floor (boys on top floor). The room itself contained several bunk beds, a lockable locker for your backpack (5mm padlock require) and a sink. The bathroom contained plenty of showers and cubicles, so although shared by a floor you should have access.

  • Everything is good and very safe for solo woman.

  • Very friendly staff, good and free breakfast included! Clean rooms and bathrooms and good location!
  • It was a nice stay and they helped tremendously with an emergency bed. It's near activities, but you'd have to walk about 15 minutes or so to find them. Very clean and wonderful breakfast!
  • I really enjoyed my stay here. The hostel is nice and clean, staff are friendly and WiFi is good. Free breakfast is fantastic, all sorts of things to eat and the main dish changes daily. Bathrooms are very standard but nothing to complain about. Staff are very tough on safety, which is a good thing, you have a locker, pass to enter the building, they supervise the locked luggage room at all times and they come across as smart and helpful staff, albeit a little strict. Would definitely stay again.
  • Of all the hostels i've been in i never met such a lovely staff in my life.
  • Staff were super friendly
  • I loved the atmosphere
  • Great location in the beautiful, quiet Jordan neighborhood. Friendly staff and guests, and the free, warm breakfast was a nice surprise! The 18 bed dorm rooms were a bit loud in the morning, but the beds were clean and comforatable. Would definitely stay there again on my next trip to Amsterdam.
  • The hostel is very conveniently and centrally located, close to most major attractions and very easy to get to. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I was in Amsterdam only for the weekend, and this was a perfect spot. In terms of the facilities, they are clean but average; but it's still very good value for money. Also, since I was traveling alone I felt more comfortable that the hostel did not permit any drugs/ alcohol on it's premises. Overall I would recommend it to my friends.
  • A friendly hostel with helpful and well informed staff. Breakfast was lovely, and the hostel is in a lovely location, convenient for museums and city. Lots of lovely bars and shops round about and useful to be able to buy tickets from the hostel itself. Great breakfasts!
  • Our second time staying there. The staff are very helpful, love the atmosphere and would highly recommend it.
  • Good location, staff very helpful and friendly.
  • It was a very nice stay and I felt welcomed. Great breakfast. Thank you!
  • Nice week spent at the shelter Jordan in amsterdam. It's a youth hotel well located, close to the center, peaceful, clean. The staff members and managers are really welcoming. The coffee of the hotel is really useful to order meals for dinner or to drink something. It's useful, peaceful, welcoming and cheap. I can only recomand you to go to the shelter jordan if you want to stay in Amsterdam.
  • This place is a light in a dark place. "They will know you are Christians by your love" and "By their fruit you will recognize them." That is Hostel Jordan. I was encouraged by the staff and it was a blessing to also be able to share my life and experiences with them. It was a little bit difficult to rent a bike as you had to give a deposit, and it was more than I had. Since I was leaving the next day, I didn't want to get 50 more out.
  • the ostel is clean beautiful and near the centre
  • This hostel is in a great location, and the staff is very friendly. Unfortunately, I don't think it has the best value for money.
  • Great place with great volunteers, close to every good spot to see in Amsterdam. I really recomand to stay on it !
  • The Shelter in Amsterdam has a great relaxed, comfortable, and homey feel that's just perfect to recuperate weary travelers! The cafe, with the homemade food and comfy atmosphere, was a great place to hang out and grab a bite of very affordable food! The fact that all the staff are volunteers gives the Shelter a really friendly vibe. Loved my stay here.
  • It was wonderful to stay there, staff there are very helpful and responsible to each person. Breakfast was good, bed was comfy and it is close to reach central station.
  • I loved this 'little' hostel. The staff were so kind warm and helpful that i felt immediately at 'home'. I actually enjoyed returning after a hectic day sight seeing as their was an atmosphere of domestic calm and order that was an antidote to the hedonism of the city. Reflecting on my short stay at Shelter Jordan I can confidently say that i hold it and the memories of my lovely time in Amsterdam with equal fondness. Thank you.
  • It's in a nice and safe neighborhood and has good river around. The staffs are really nice and the warm breakfast was quite good. The facilities are a bit old but it was alright to use. Nice and secure hostel within good price.
  • great place! excellent food!
  • Very homely environment & staff extremely corurtescious
  • Overall is good !! Will go back again if I go alone trip in Amsterdam . Just some small things need to improve will be perfect ! The wifi not work during my first night stay at my hall . Moreover , one sucket for 4 beds people to share not convènient .
  • Hostel is 5 minutes walk from the tram and bus station, 15 minutes walk from Anne Frank House. Friendly staff and great breakfast. Map available in at the receptionist so that's convenient.
  • Was very clean and comfortable, the room was great. i will be coming back.
  • Very nice people. GReat location ans low prices
  • The staffs are super nice, and friendly . The location is easily to go every attractive and markets. It's pity that they don't have lift, so if you carry heavy luggages, you have to find someone to help. The breakfast is basic but full for girl. There's rarely socket in the dorm, so it's better to bring multi-socket with you. Having a nice day, people here are so friendly.
  • This was the beginning of my trip and as a 25 year old female travelling alone I was somewhat apprehensive but as soon as I arrived in shelter Jordan I felt at ease. I cannot praise the staff highly enough they treated me like a friend rather than a customer. The free walking tour is also worth going on. I stayed in a 18 bed dorm which sounds like a tight squeeze but it was actually ok. I never had to wait to use a shower or toilet and there were lockers in the room. 100% would stay again!
  • This hostel is clean and safe, it's probably the best choice for female traveler in Amsterdam, so I will definitely recommend It to my female friend who wants to travel in Amsterdam alone.
  • I spent 2 nights in the hostel, the location was excellent. The hostel was very clean and the staff very friendly. The only major problem for me was the noise, there was no curfew (but it was not a problem), but the floor where I was, the girls floor were very noisy. Some people did not considerate and respect the others.
  • My room (a four bedroom room) was very cramped. There were two bunk banks and four lockers, no table or even a chair.
  • Staff was very friendly and helpful. It was a nice environment at the hostel for the most part.
  • We had amazing time staying at Shelter Jordan. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. Especially the hot breakfast was a nice surprise :) Thank you for making our stay in Amsterdam this great!!
  • I spent 5 nights in the hostel and it was a really great experience! The staff is friendly, the facilities are thoroughly cleaned, and the breakfast is nice,my favourites were the freshly made pancakes! The hostel provides an excellent base to explore A.dam, and you can comfortably rest by night, it is not a partyhouse. I felt that my luggage is kept safe (you receive a locker in the bedroom, and you may also use a common storage room at the reception that is vigilated by the staff).
  • Hostel is very clean and the bathrooms, although shared, are very clean and organized. It is not exactly in the center but this is not bad. Are just 10 minutes walk and you will know more places along the way.

Genuine quotes from guests who stayed at Shelter Jordan in July 2015

  • It was a very nice stay. Clean and quiet.

  • The cafeteria was very nice. I really liked the food items on offer. Also, the beds were clean and they cleaned the rooms everyday which was a nice factor.

  • It was a nice, warm stay at shelter. Their breakfast is pretty darn good, especially the pancakes. The staff is warm and helpful. I stayed in a 12person dorm but it was not uncomfortable or suffocating. However I strongly recommend that each bed is given at least one charging point.

  • This hostel was very good, rooms were a bit squishy with 8 girls with large backpacks but beds were comfy. All in all good hostel and great location right by Anne Frank house.

  • Good place, people who work there are very nice! Very central location i is a bit pricey for what it really is.

  • The Breakfast was really Good and the People working there are always willing to help. I didnt like that you have to whisper in the room and no Food or drinks are allowed. There is no avamigable kitchen to Cook, But they sell Food at Good prices.

  • Free breakfast was awesome.

  • lovely stay at your hostel, no problems - just what we needed!

  • The staff, seriously! They're all amazingly happy and friendly all the time. Something I haven't seen even in really expensive hotels. The hostel is otherwise good as well. The neighbourhood is one of the best parts in Amsterdam. Downsides are that the rooms are quite packed, they don't have too many plugs and the wifi doesn't work in the rooms. There's no kitchen but the food from the restaurant is good and pretty cheap. Im not super religious but it doesnt matter at all

  • Small hostel in a wonderful, "local" area of the city away from the tourist trap center. Staff was really nice, rooms small (but clean) and bathrooms decent size (clean as well). Just next to a tram line that will get you to central station in 10 minutes.  Only downside is lack of social areas and no kitchen for cooking/storing food. Overall a great stay though- I'd go back

  • Staff were very nice, and breakfast was good.

  • Shelter Jordan had a pleasant and quiet atmosphere. The dorms had individual lockers for your suitcase and the shared bathrooms were clean and spacious. The free breakfast was a definite highlight. Would recommend.

  • The staff at Shelter Jordan was amazing. Friendly, helpful, and kind. It's not a far walk from all the sights and was a great atmosphere to stay in.

  • Great breakfasts, friendly people, and just an overall lovely atmosphere! I would love to stay here again :)

  • I wasn't sure what to expect from a Christian hostel, but it wasn't weird for someone with no religious ties to stay here. Everyone who worked here was Christian but they were lovely to talk to and weren't trying to recruit you or anything. The room was quite small and cramped with not much space to put your bag, and the lockers were only big enough to keep your valuables in. A lovely area, if you're not interested in staying in the Red Light District part of town.

  • Awesome location. Sweet staff and I love that they're volunteers. If you're coming to Amsterdam to party then this wouldn't be the place for you. I met a lot of nice people that I ended up touring around the city with. Not the cleanness nor does it have the nicest facilities but the building has character. Free breakfast was nice.

  • Everything was brillant, apart from the distance of the hostel from Amsterdam Centraal Station.

  • amazingly friendly staffs! a bit distance from train station especially with luggage but acceptable. Love the free juice and bread at breakfast! :)

  • During my time in europe it was one of the most complete hostels that I have stayed.

  • This nice and clean hostel is ran by christians and you can take tram to here from central station for 10minutes or walk for 30minutes. The breakfast is quite good. The only thing imperfect is not key for room but lockers are inside the room.

  • Very friendly staff. Great location. Enjoyed the bible study/meditation sessions. Enjoyed my visit and would stay again next time I am in Amsterdam.

  • It is a good place, with friendly staff and clean facilities. Good location.

  • I really did enjoy my stay at Jordan shelter. It was central to most of the city activities and I was really impressed at how lovely all the staff members were. And helpful. And pretty good cooks. Having a breakfast was really a good way to start the day without having to worry of looking for somewhere suitable. I just wish there were more of these hostels throughout Europe. Congrats to all and keep up the good work.

  • Warm atmosphere and very sociable staff. Free breakfast, good rooms and clean restrooms. couldn't ask for more, if not for the position: about 20 mins on foot to the city centre

  • Super close to the Anne Frank House. The staffs are super helpful, you do not need to ask for help if they see you with a hand map immediately appears asking if someone can help. The common room, they chamamde coffee and yard (garden) are super comfortable, however found the room with dim lighting.

  • They treated me like a long lost friend! This was the nicest stay I have had in a hostel

  • A warm atmosphere, great breakfast and very helpful staff who have an open ear for all the questions!

  • Our stay was very enjoyable. Staff were always very willing to help. The environment is very quiet and the location is great!

  • My two friends and I loved staying at the Shelter! All the staff we got to meet was very friendly! The rooms and bathroom are clean and the beds comfortable. The only thingthat was annoying is the very loud hand drying machine that some people use at night... All in all I would definitly recommend staying in this very nice hostel!

  • Only stayed here one night but it was all great! It's a bit far out of the red district but still in walking distance to everything. Anne frank house is just around the corner.

  • Good hostel, lacking some atmosphere I felt but I was there by myself and only for one night. They put on dinner for a good price and a free breakfast which was good! Wi-Fi worked in my room too which was a plus

  • super nice staff! they are all volunteers and really helpful and kind. nice breakfast. cleaned room

  • Absolutely loved staying at Shelter Jordan and wish we could have been there longer! The cafe was such a great place for a bunch of weary backpackers to regroup and relax and the staff went above and beyond in catering to guests. Some of the cleanest dorms we've stayed in, breakfasts are fabulous and include a free hot drink from the cafe, and we loved being able to rent bikes from the hostel and ride around the city! Thanks for caring so much about your guests Shelter shows!
  • Very positive atmosphere, friendly staff High recommendations!
  • The hostel is so nice. The location is good. The staff are helpful and friendly. The breakfast was wonderful. There are different choices of breakfast everyday.

  • Nice hostel, good location with bike rental and many other conveniences.

  • The hostel is a great, quiet place with a good vibe. Everything is clean and nicely organised. Really enjoyed the stay there.

  • It was so nice staying there! The staff were really nice and helpful. It's a small place but it's perfect location and good food and cafe!

  • Good hostel. Staff was very helpful. Rooms were a decent size along with lockers. Showers were hot! Free breakfast was good. Location is a bit from the city center however tram and bus make it easy to reach.

  • The security is good. Lockers are provided inside the room. The beds and washrooms are clean. It was nice to have breakfast served but the portion is a bit too small.

  • I really liked my stay at Hostel Shelter Jordan. The location is awesome, I actually just walked around the city and didn't need the public transport. Damrak is 20 minutes walk and also the Centraal Station as well. The staff is very helpful and the atmosphere at the hostel was amazing - I felt myself very safe there. Generally the accommodation in Amsterdam is very expensivo, but I found Shelter Jordan was fair. I just did not like that there was no jack/plug in the rooms.

  • This was my second time coming back to this hostel and it is a very safe place and I enjoy the free breakfast.
  • I have stayed in shelter jordan for 2 weeks in the 18 beds dorm. The location is great, you can access to most of the places on foot within 30mins. The facilities are good. The best part of the hostel is the friendly and helpful staffs, they made me feel like home. Best atmosphere among the hostels i have ever stayed. Highly recommended.

  • Lovely!!!!

  • Solid free breakfast. Good location. Security at front desk was good, but rooms don't lock(there are lockers though). Def a Christian hostel, but they invited me once to bible study then didn't mention it again. A good alternative to the crazy party hostels of amsterdam. Relatively reasonably priced. Staff were kind. I didn't take transit at all- walked to the van Gogh museum and other sites. Train station is also close. My room was pretty packed. Overall decent. Bathroom is large. No kitchen.

  • Very friendly staff. Most helpful. I will stay there again.

  • Great staff, great WiFi, clean facilities and great free breakfast. Loved having separate male-female dorms too. If you value your sleep and want a non-party hostel, stay here.

  • Very nice, awesome hostel with great staff! Just a few steps away from the tramway to the city. Recommend it to everyone!!! ;))

  • My friend and I really enjoyed this hostel! We were a little unsure about staying here since neither of us is religious, but we actually felt quite comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The 5 person bedroom was pretty small, but since we were rarely in the room it worked perfectly. It was in a fantastic location that was quiet but not too far from city centre. The hostel itself was also very quiet and peaceful. We will definitely be recommending this hostel to our friends!

  • Wonderful hostel. Staff were really nice, they had a free hostel dinner one of the nights I was there and the breakfast was great. Really good location and the wifi worked in my room. The room was very comfortable and the showers were great too.

  • I had a pleasant stay. The atmosphere is nice with a really attentive staff. The hostel is well located, in a pleasant neighbourhood.

  • overall very nice hostel. super clean and the staff were nice plus a nice breakfast every morning and cheap dinner options as well. it is a christian hostel though so you won't get advice on the red light district or great party spots but it is still a very nice place to stay near by everything but not too close to were you can't relax.

  • it is a good place to stay but be aware these are nice people u can't drink or smoke there which is good

  • I had a great time at Shelter Jordaan and plan to stay again. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean, and the amenities make sense if you want value. There is free breakfast every day, free locker storage in rooms, the showers have hot water, and the location is close to the city center. The shelter is not a place for wild parties, which is a refreshing thing to see in Amsterdam. It does offer Christian activities, but they are low key and non-required. Overall, a great stay!

  • Shelter Jordan is a quiet and clean hostel, perfect for people who have a packed sightseeing program planed in Amsterdam. The stuff was friedly and the breakfast tasty.
  • Nice hostel and good environment also :)

  • Stayed in the dorms. Even with 18 beds it never felt crowded and everyone was quiet even when coming in late at night. Breakfast is simple but fine. Everything is kept clean. Internet was a bit spotty but it was fine for some Skype messages, emails and light browsing to plan the days activities. Overall a very good experience.

  • Great experience at Shelter Jordan (it was my first stay in an hostel), personal is very kind.
  • I love shelter. It's a home to stay, to have breakfast together, to be alone but feeling peace of mind. So grateful.

  • I've stayed at Shelter Jordan three times and each time have deeply appreciated the friendly, helpful attitude of the staff. This is a very good place to stay. Sure, the accommodations are basic, but how much do you actually need? I like it there.

  • Safe hostel, staff are friendly and everyone is looking out for you and each other.
  • Shelter Jordan was absolutely great. The staff is super nice, the hostel itself is pretty great and the fact that it's in Amsterdam just makes it better!

  • Hostel staff very friendly, and helpful. Location was great. Would def stay there again if I have the chance

Genuine quotes from guests who stayed at Shelter Jordan in November 2014

  • A lovely hostel with a great community, and very helpful staff.
  • Excellent value for money location, will go again
  • The location is great. Near public transportation. The staffs are warm and very nice.
  • Would stay again. Some of the cleanest hostel bathrooms I've seen. They also sell locks for the lockers if you don't have one, which is useful.
[I loved my little getaway in Amsterdam at Shelter Jordan. The staff is very welcoming and very helpful. The hostel is very nice, in a very interesting area, open 24/24, no limit to go party. You just give when you pay a deposit of 15 euros for the key. The hostel is quiet, safe feel to it, it's perfect for sleeping. The bedding was perfect and a locker was provided, not to forget his padlock.]
  • This hostel was great! Very safe, clean, and close to public transit, but also walkable to the Anne Frank Museum and a few other sites. The breakfast was also excellent: cooked meals each day made fresh! Plus big lockers and the facilities were clean. If in Amsterdam, I reccomend staying here (unless you want to drink in your hostel: this is an alcohol free Christian one)
Vorteil: Sehr dicht beim Anne Frank Haus. Eignet sich also gut wenn man eh dorthin möchte. [Great atmosphere (also as a non-Christian), super nice staff. At breakfast you can choose between 3 variants tasted. Sanitary facilities good (little mold). The hostel offers small business ventures, for free. City walk sightseeing, movie night, etc., contributes to the family atmosphere. The location of the Shelter Jordan: about 20 minutes walk from Central Station. Could be better, but is fine. Advantage: Very close to the Anne Frank House. Therefore is well suited if you want to get there anyway.]
  • nice hostel, and nice people, but we ask 4 times for some more blankets and no one gave us. one night the showers were cold. the hostel by the way is in a good position (15 minutes by feet to dam square); in general a good choice.
Lol !! [Hotel quiet face canels. L The hotel staff is very nice listening to nice and friendly !! Calm and relaxed atmosphere. Correct room. There are only breakfast that I have not appreciated (matter of taste) .I recommend this hotel for young people who come to party or pr those who come find peace. Good price quality ratio. A bit far from the center but head way we walk in Amsterdam !! Lol !!]
  • I'm wondering that if you could add some sockets in the 18 girls room. Cuz it's not very convenient for us to share only one sockets in a 18-peoples room. especially when the only sockets is on the wall besides the door..
  • Auberge chaleureuse et accueillante...propre et pas loin du centre...seul point negatif...pas de prise dans les chambres dortoirs... [Warm and welcoming hostel clean ... and not far from the center ... only negative point ... no outlet in the dorms rooms ...]
  • I though that this was a great hostel. Great price and location, staff was friendly and glad breakfast was included. The only suggestion I would like to make is if there could be hooks placed in the restrooms to hang towels.
Very friendly, very good breakfast, great all !!! but staff need to speak Spanish, if not by Roberto who worked there who spoke Spanish, had been very difficult to communicate, but just he had no shift per those days, but equally helped me in a telephone, very grateful for that help !!! • Thnx for all ! The best Staff ever!Nice lacation and atmosphere there!CU again guys, for sure!! Thimios
A recommander sans hesitation [Well located, close to the Anne Frank House and close to the city center, this hostel offers unbeatable value for money. Breakfast is included and we were able to enjoy toast. Only downside: a single outlet in a room 6. Definitely recommended]
  • Good, safe location close to the Anne Frank house. I recommend this hostel if you are more into the museums and shops than the party culture of Amsterdam. Staff were extremely kind and helpful. The main common room area had a really nice coffee shop atmosphere, and was a great place to chill in the evenings. Breakfast is free, and you can even get it to-go if you're leaving early. Bathroom was very cold and the hairdryer wasn't working, but that's my only complaint. Really enjoyed our stay.
  • Great location. Excellent reception. Room/Dorm rather spartan... Metal lockers were noisy, and no padlocks... But it all looked clean and tidy. Radiator was not working though... I had an extra blanket which was all right, but my head was cold all night and I did not sleep well... Shame really... Cafe felt really nice and quiet place to rest and meet people, without being noisy (I really don't like party hostels...)
Consiglio i pancakes. [I just returned from Amsterdam where I stayed with two friends for two nights in this hostel. The hostel is very clean, the rooms very spartan (two bunk beds, a sink and cupboards) but for a low budget holiday with friends and you can do. The important thing for me is the cleanliness, and in this hostel seemed very good. Breakfast was included and included classic bread ham or jams or pancakes or french toast rolling, both excellent. Advice pancakes.]
  • A very good place to stay in Amsterdam. The breakfast is included and it's very good! The staff is great, and the hostel is calm and quiet. The only problem is the lack of plugs (1 in a room of 8 people), but fortunately we can leave our phones charging at the reception. I recommend this hostel if you want somewhere calm.
  • I enjoyed my stay. The staff in particular were friendly, helpful and the atmosphere calm and relaxed. The location suited me being in a quiet area but all the popular places could be reached on foot.
  • Overall good experience at shelter Jordan, it's a bit sad at night, everybody's on their computer/phone and there's not much dialogues. Though the staff is not responsible for this, they could at least encourage it by starting games/talks in the living room. But apart from that, it's clean, secured and the staff is really nice!
  • It took me a long time to find this place, so better to ask someone or check the map. There is a street outside, but the hostel is quiet and cosy. especially the stuff, there are really excellent. A good choice for me:)
  • Friendly staff and nice common room. There was a Piano as well I should have brought music seat..
  • Loved the area. Quieter than the super busy tourist sections right in the city center, still lots to do nearby.
  • Nice place, but if you want to arrive walking from central station get a map with all the streets, i got a bit lost in the channels area because some streets are kind of circular! Nice common room, nice bed and good pressure shower! Breakfast is just normal! But great price/quality relation for such an expensive city!

Genuine quotes from guests who stayed at Shelter Jordan in October 2014

  • A great place to stay
  • Great place, great people.
  • very good
  • Enjoyed my stay.
  • Really good place to be here.
  • Very good hostel! I would stay again! Stayed in 4 dorms room. Very clean.
  • 真的很好,而且男女分开,早餐棒棒哒 [Really good, and men and women separately, breakfast free]
  • Good hôtel, good location, staff was nice, very helpful and friendly. The showers was small but good enough
  • Need to have more outlets for charging your phone.
  • I had a really good short stay with you guys. The staff is Young and friendly, always there to help you with any kind of questions you may have. Moreover, breakfast was excellent! =D
  • nice place to stay, staff real nice, shame I left my I-pod on the bed and lost it, my fault! overall a nice stay thanks guys.
  • This is the first hostel I've lived in and it give me the impression of great safe and convenience. No matter the location or the nice staff there is so great! I have even attend their free dinner which was held in dark, very specially and lovely. If i have a chance to go to Amsterdam, I will choose here definitely!
  • we stayed there for 2 nights but we only overslept in the hostel. The staff is nice. The beds are good. The breakfast not too big but nice!! The atmosphere poor compared to hostels I stayed in Amsterdam before. Still quite fair deal! A little bit away from the citycentre but not more than 15 min walk.
[Very clean, staff friendly and helpful, kitchen interior with simple menu but at affordable prices and with water and orange juice for free. Breakfast good and plentiful. Well-maintained rooms, there is also a light to read to not disturb others.]
  • Todo excelente. Un poco lejos del centro de amsterdam (zona roja), caminas un poco, te podes tomar el tranvia te deja a 2 cuadras... lo demas, muy recomendable! [All excellent. A bit far from the center of amsterdam (red zone), you walk a little, you you can take the tram leaves you 2 blocks ... the rest, highly recommended!]
  • El único fallo es la poca disponibilidad de enchufes en las habitaciones. Por lo demás... maravilloso!! [The only flaw is the limited availability of outlets in the rooms. Otherwise ... wonderful !! marvellous!]
  • I had a wonderful time in the hostel, the staff was very kind and helpful. I had great open minded discussion with different people, and the atmosphare was very unique. Cant wait my next stay :)
  • Ok i know what you're thinking.. A crazy christian hostel?!, not the case, I'm an atheist myself so thought it might be interesting to see how the others think and it was really interesting i felt welcome by all the lovely staff and even attended Bible discussion each night as a source of deep philosophical discussion, i miss those guys! It's no alcohol no (inside) smoking policy is'nt a problem as you can just go to the bars around the corner if in need.. So forget your bias and just Try it!
  • More than a place to sleep—well-organized, with staff offering offering advice, activities, and assistance.
  • The breakfast was nice, the staff was young, nice and helpfull. I just think that there should be more people in the front desk to help around. Having only one person to take care of everything wasn't enough.
  • Helpful, friendly staff. Rooms were clean and well ordered and is well located between museums and the Dam, close but not too close. Good atmosphere, but yet calm.
  • Ótimo hostel, localização boa, fica a 10, 15 min do centro. Preço excelente e bem organizado. Voltarei com certeza! [Great hostel, good location, is 10, 15 min from downtown. Great price and well organized. I will return for sure!]
  • Great staff and breakfast, awesome beds for sleeping. I recommend people to stay in the 8 bed room, which is really great. Hot water for showers and clean atmosphere.
  • Safe and you can get a small room fora great price! Love the free breakfast and the convenience of getting it to go if you are leaving early. Never enough paper towels in the bathroom though - my only complaint.
  • 房子拐出去背后就是tram站牌,很方便。步行去中心车站大概30分钟。如果做tram只需要10分钟 [hostel is behind the tram stop sign out, it is convenient. Walk to the center of the station about 30 minutes. If you do tram takes only 10 minutes]
  • Decent hostel—wifi in the cafe was good, room had large lockers, location is a bit of a walk from the Centraal Station. I'm all about hostel security, but I prefer a keycard or locked door past reception that the reception opens rather than the slightly annoying shout asking if I have a voucher once I'm halfway up the staircase. Overall, a decent hostel though. I'd stay here again.
  • The hotel is run by young Christain people, which made the atmosphere really great.

Genuine quotes from guests who stayed at Shelter Jordan in September 2014

  • Loved the people! Thanks for a great stay in Amsterdam.
  • nice staff, good location very easy to find.
  • Equipe super sympa. [Staff super friendly.]
  • Hostel was very well maintained, rooms are clean, staff was polite and Cafeteria gives very good vibes :)
  • Great hostel with great staff!! Clean bathrooms, good shower with hot water all the time and amazing breakfast (always go for the pancackes!). The only con was that there was only one power socket in my room (with 5 beds).
  • My friend and I had a great 4 nights at Shelter Jordan in Amsterdam. The staff were all very friendly and chatty, the homemade food on an evening was amazing, both in taste and value (6euros) and the beds were pretty comfy. The hostel in general was clean, however the ladies showers did become dirty very quickly as they were frequently used. We stayed in a four bed dorm, which was definitely worth the money. The only negative comment I have is that the hairdryers used all night long were loud.
[I really liked the hostel! I found it very comfortable, quiet and kind. 'e A bit far from downtown, but very easy to reach it by train. The staff are very receptive and kind. And a place I will return when the Amsterdam.s to 50 personas !!!]
  • The staff were amazing, the location was pretty good, and even though we only stayed one night, it was quiet and refreshing (especially after a transatlantic flight). The room I stayed in was very large and a bit crowded, but people were respectful and tried to be as quiet as possible while people were sleeping.
  • acceuil trés sympathique et acceuillant. auberge trés calme et reposante literie de bonne qualité petit déjeuner un peu léger pour des gros mangeurs merci pour tout [Home very friendly and welcoming. very quiet and relaxing inn good quality bedding breakfast a little light for big eaters thank you for all]
  •  This is my first time to stay at a hostel and the staffs are nice. I enjoy the stay however, it would be great if they can make the room light brighter. I was expecting to attend the bible discussion but somehow I didn't see any. Good and safe location, great price.
[Location is good, not far from the Anne Frank House or 4 stops by tram from the center or vokzala.Tramvai go until midnight or taxi 10 evro.V room for 18 people 1 socket but still charged retsepshene in exchange for all nomerok.Personal horoshiy.Nikakih constraints in the real world, no! Online normal.]
  • Most/all of the staff were volunteers who were all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included so it's incredibly good value. There is no kitchen for guests but I'd recommend the dinner at 6 Euros. It's a good and quiet location near a tram station. It is secure as they check your voucher on entry. The dorm had large lockers (bring you own lock). There was a lack of power sockets - only 1 for the room of 5 so you need to ask the staff at reception to charge your phone.
  • Location is a bit far but close to the bus station to the airport. room is tiny and there is only one power socket for the 4 bed dorm! Shower floor is at the same level with the washroom so water will flood everywhere. Otherwise staff are very friendly and they do make huge efforts trying to help. Security is excellent and this is the only place I stayed that ask for hostel card for entry.
  • The staff was very friendly. I would love to stay at this hostel again. The breakfast was delicious as well. I am definitely recommending others to go to Shelter Jordan.
  • Shelter Jordan felt like a second home from the very first moment I entered it. The staff are extremely welcoming and do their job very well. Perfect for any number of nights, as the facilities are very nice. The food included is very nice considering the price, and one can always ask to have something done a bit different - they will comply in any way they can. I cannot stress how nice and safe this place feels, so if you want a place to stay that feels like a home, go to Shelter Jordan!
[Breakfast acceptable daily volume with 3 options. If you have to leave early they prepared a packed breakfast. Everything is clean. The hostel is quiet as opposed to the center. It is a bit far from tourist attractions. Ideal for individuals or small groups who prefer to enjoy daytime life in amsterdam but want to sleep at night. The staff is friendly.]
  • One of the best hostels I've stayed in. There are lockers in all the rooms (bring your padlock) and storage room near reception, which were really useful. As a female travelling alone, I felt very safe there. Breakfast is great! There are 3 options, musli with fruit and yogurt/milk, bread with ham and cheese, and a hot breakfast option which changes everyday. Also comes with coffee and juice. Excellent value!! The only criticism is the poor wifi in some rooms and even in the reception level.
  • Facility is good! But When I get out the shower room, too cold ;;
  • I felt extremely safe while staying at Shelter Jordan, and I think that's why I liked it so much, Despite sharing a bedroom with 18 girls, I knew that both my belongings and myself were safe. Additionally, the staff was extremely helpful and the free breakfast was great! It didn't feel like a hostel, it felt like a home.
  • Hotel bien ubicado, el desayuno no es gran cosa pero está bien. El hotel en general limpio aunque al final del día no tanto. Es un hotel cómodo y bien ubicado sin demasiada atmósfera. [Hotel well located, the breakfast is not great but okay. The hotel generally clean although the end of the day not so much. It is a comfortable and well located without much atmosphere.]
  • Une équipe supe gentille et à l'écoute, merci. [A team supe nice and attentive, thank you]
  • No in room lockers big enough for packs, whilst religious not overly pushy about it ... Average hostel nothing bad
  • I felt warmly welcome! The staff were very friendly und helpful. every day a delicious breakfast, clean rooms - I enjoyed the stay!
  • Buen hostel, recomendable. Buena ubicacion, se llega al centro caminando facilmente. La limpieza buena y el personal tambien. Hacen buenos y variados desayunos. Copado lugar!! [Good hostel, recommended. Good location, you can reach the center easily walk. Good housekeeping and personal too. They make good and varied breakfast. Copas place !!]
  • The location is perfect, you can find so many attractions around by just walking in about 10 minutes. Great and helpful staff. You should try hanging out in the cafe, you may find some interesting conversation with the people there.
  • if what u r looking is for peace and quiet, this is the place. U will also get clean rooms, great breakfast. if u r planning to go to party, keep looking!
  • Rooms were small, but that's expected. Staff was very helpful and engaging. The one downside for me was that there weren't enough outlets in the rooms to charge electronics; however, the cafe/lounge area had a lot and also the front desk had a place to charge them too (it was a ticket system for security, I didn't use it, but I know others did). Atmosphere was great!
