Terms & Conditions
Shelter hospitality: Our goal is to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere where people can actually sleep. (Hint: not a party hostel) To help make this possible, please read our Terms and Conditions.
The positive part of the hostel experience is sharing life together. So we ask that you treat the other guests and hostel staff with mutual respect. The comfort and safety of our guest is very important to us. Aggression, disruptive behaviour, intimidation or excess noise can be grounds to be asked to leave. We ask that you limit the amount of noise after the hour of 22:00.
People come to a hostel to have a good nights sleep and to help make that a reality, we have decided to be an alcohol and drug-free hostel. This means that drugs and alcohol are not allowed in the hostel or the garden. People that arrive at the hostel under influence can be refused entrance. Smoking is not permitted inside the building and normal cigarettes can be smoked in our garden. Any guest who disregarded these rules will be fined 50 euros.
To also contribute this atmosphere of the hostel, we do not accept hen/ stag/ Bachelor parties. You may be refused entrance upon arrival and no refunds will be issued.
Rooms are available after 13:30 on the day of arrival and then you may start using our facilities. Bag drop-off is available from 8:00 and then we ask you to explore the city further. There’s no curfew or lockout.
We ask that you check-out by 10:00 on your day of departure. You may leave your bags in our storage area until 18:00 if space allows. We are not responsible for any damage or lost items stored in the luggage area.
We do not accept walk-in bookings after 22:00.
While travelling, plans can change. Please take the time to inform us if your arrival is delayed via email before midnight (local time) on your day of arrival. If not, your booking will be regarded as a no show and cancelled. We cannot guarantee you a bed for the rest of the nights if you show up later.
Non-refundable: At the time of booking, the full amount will be charged to your credit card. If your credit card number is invalid or there are not enough funds on the card, your booking will be cancelled.
Fully Flexible: Your credit card will be charged one day prior to arrival to ensure a smooth check-in. It is not possible to pay with cash upon arrival. If you decide to change your room type after the payment is made, no refunds will be given.
Non-Refundable: In case of a modification, cancellation or no show, no refunds will be given.
We know that unexpected situations can happen in life. So fully flexible bookings allow you the flexibility to changes or cancel your booking up to 3 days before the arrival date. (Example: a booking for Friday needs to be cancelled before Tuesday at 23:59 to avoid fees). We only accept changes or cancellation via email. Please always include your name, reservation number(s) and arrival date that you wish to cancel. A cancellation or change is only valid when you have received a confirmation email of the changes/cancellation.
In the case of a no show, your credit card will be charged for the first night. If the full amount has already been charged to your credit card, the remaining nights will be refunded to the same card. Once you have arrived and paid, it is not possible to receive a refund if you decide to leave early.
If you decide to cancel your Non-refundable or Fully flexible booking, the 7% and 3 euro city tax will turn into a cancellation fee.
Changes made to your booking may result in higher prices.
We try our best to place people who book together in the same room. But we cannot always guarantee that. We also separate rooms by gender. Please pay attention to the fact that you have booked the correct room type Male/Female.
We only allow guests are 18 and older to stay in the hostel.
A valid Passport or government issued identity card (for EU citizen) is required upon check-in.
A keycard is handed out during the check-in process and is mandatory for entering the hostel. Only guests staying in the hostel are allowed to enter. If a keycard is lost or not handed in at check-out, 5 euros will be charged to your credit card.
Pets/animals are now allowed in the hostel. The Shelter City does have a cat named Oliver. If you are allergic to cats, you may be happier at at the Shelter Jordan.
Our building has over 100 years of history. This means that we do not have a lift and our building is not handicap friendly. We only offer bunk beds, so if you are in need of a bottom bunk, please e-mail us to see if that is possible.
We are a hostel for travellers. So we have a maximum stay of 14 days for guests.
We are a hostel who focuses on individual travellers and small groups. To keep this as our focus, we have certain guidelines for people who wish to make a booking for more than 8 people.
We define a group as 8 or more people arriving on the same date, using the same name or using the same credit card. In these cases our groups terms and conditions apply.
